A sign of change at Finke Community

Posted on Sept 30, 2008

The building site for the first Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in the centre of Australia was dedicated on Sunday, 13 July.

This historic and exciting event, which was held at the site of the new Apatula-Finke Community (NT) SDA Church, included erecting a sign showing the intention to build as soon fundraising is complete.

When the sign was put up, some of the local women were so moved that they shed tears as a prayer was offered on the site.

Designs for the future SDA church was shared the evening before the dedication which resulted in much excitement, discussion and questions. The community members were so pleased with the design and the opportunity to have input that they embraced the proposal with minor changes.

The local residents are looking forward to the commencement of the project while others have already said they would like to baptised in the new church facility.

Just five years ago, there was no SDA presence in the Apatula-Finke area. But as a result of two locals attending Mamarapha College (WA), they requested an SDA Church to be built near their home. Since then, the Aputula Council has supported the work and regular visits by SDA Church pastors.

The SDA Church (Northern Australia) has put aside some money for this project as well as fundraising events organised by Marek Jantos. More donations are needed before volunteers can begin the building project.
